Holiday Decorating

Holiday decorations are a big part of the fun for the season. In fact, it’s the decorations that help to inspire and motivate the holiday spirit. And the best part is, when it comes to decorating, you can do it your way. Whether you want to use an all-American theme that includes only the colors of red, white, and blue, and uses flags and eagles as ornaments, or you want a more traditional theme that is somewhat eclectic and includes a mix of colors and time-honored ornaments and other decorations, it’s all up to you.

The truth is, holiday themes can be built around colors or they can be designed around characters or ideas. For instance, a western theme may include ornaments of saddles, horses, cowboys, boots, and other ‘western’ items. Similarly, a theme designed around action heroes could include decorations that depict characters like Superman, Spiderman, Hulk, and other action figures that are popular today.

Holiday Meals & Events

Holiday meals are usually enjoyed by large groups; this is often a larger than usual gathering of family members or the group may also include extended family as well as friends and other guests. Because so many people are involved many groups choose to do a modified version of a potluck meal. Although the host/hostess will provide the main dishes, guests may bring side dishes and desserts.

This type of arrangement makes hosting an event more affordable and easier to accomplish, plus, everyone has an opportunity to contribute something that they like preparing. The ‘non-cooks’ in the group can be responsible for things like soft drinks, napkins, a bag of ice, or other items that do not require preparation.

Making the Time Fun for All

As the days roll past there will be more and more to do before Christmas arrives. Shopping is one of the things that will be at the top of your ‘to do’ list. Fortunately, shopping online is now an option – an option that can save you from many of the hassles of holiday shopping of years gone by.

Small children are likely to be very excited during this season. It’s a good idea to plan activities that will focus on them prior to Christmas. One idea is to plan a day or evening of decorating together. You could even plan to make some of your decorations. Kids take pride in seeing their handiwork on display. Another idea is to spend time writing letters to Santa.

This is a great way to get ideas about what your kids (grand kids) want for Christmas. Make the time special. Have a special treat ready to munch on and play (and/or sing) some Christmas music as you write the letters.

Christmas is on its way – it will be here sooner than you think! Better start planning!
